Capturing Them Softly – Soft Censorship and State Capture in the Hungarian Media

The Soft Censorship Global Review is an international research project managed by the WAN-IFRA and the Open Society Foundations. Based on a common methodology, the research analyses the effects of the state as a whole (legal environment, content regulation, market regulation, state advertising, state subsidies) on the production of quality content. It provides the basis for policy and advocacy work towards raised awareness related to the issue and the implementation of fair and transparent rules in the area. In this year’s research one of the so called focus countries was Hungary, and Mertek Media Monitor served as the Hungarian partner in the global project.

The research benefited from gracious support by the Open Society Foundations and the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers.

Mertek’s newest material with the title of “Capturing Them Softly –  Soft Censorship and State Capture in the Hungarian Media” is dealing with the soft censorship phenomenon in Hungary.
